Sherman Family Korea Emerging Scholar Lecture

Media

The Korea Society celebrates sixty years since its founding with a public and press presentation on September 27 by Katrin Katz of Northwestern University. Ms. Katz served on the National Security Council in the George W. Bush administration. The Korea Society selected Ms. Katz, whose dissertation addresses maritime conflict in Northeast Asia and the dynamics of nationalism in Korea, as the recipient of the Sherman Family Korea Emerging Scholar Lecture Series award, which encourages new American thought leadership on Korea. The award enjoys the kind support of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Sherman and family; Mr. Sherman served as Citi representative in Korea in the early 1970s.

Following Ms. Katz's address, Dr. Victor Cha, a Bush Center fellow, Korea chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and Georgetown professor, along with Dr. Sung-yoon Lee, Kim Koo and Korea Foundation professor at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and Dr. Sue Mi Terry, managing director at BowerGroupAsia (BGA) offer thoughts on the lecture. Dr. Cha served as director for Asian affairs on the National Security Council during the Bush Administration, and Ms. Katz and Dr. Terry were his immediate successors. Ms. Katz entertains questions from members, media, and interested public as well following their comments. President Tom Byrne will provide a welcoming remark, and Senior Director Dr. Stephen Noerper will introduce Ms. Katz. The event concludes with a reception marking sixty years since the Society's founding.
